Vadakkunnathan Temple, in Thrissur is one of the most popular temples in Kerala. It is believed to be the first Shiva temple built by Lord Parasurama who is the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
This temple, one of the UNESCO recognised heritage sites, is known for the rare murals portrayed here that include scenes from Mahabharatha, of which Vasukishayana and Nrithanatha are worshipped daily.
One for the strange aspects of the temple is that the ghee offered here for centuries doesn't melt, even in scorching summers.
Sree Kurumba Bhagavati Temple(alternatively Kodungallur Devi Temple) is a Hindu temple at Kodungallur. It is dedicated to the goddess Bhadrakali, a form of Maha Kali or Parashakthi.
The people of Kodungallur believe that this temple was, in the olden days, a Shiva shrine and it was Parasurama who installed the murti of Bhadrakali close to one of Shiva. The pujas are conducted, it is said, under direct
instructions from the goddess herself.
It is said that the temple was constructed by Cheraman Perumal.It is in this temple ,Kannaki Amman, the heroine of Ilango Adigal's Tamil story Silappathikaram attained salvation.
She came to Kodungallur, prayed to Bhadrakali of Kodungallur and became absorbed in the murti.
Guruvayur is home to the historic Sree Krishna Temple, called the Dwaraka of the South. It is among the most revered and popular pilgrimage destinations in Kerala
and the entire country.
The central shrine is believed to have been rebuilt in 1638 C.E. The architectural style and individual elements inside the shrine are beautiful representations of the history of the place.
Thali Siva Temple - Kozhikode is a 12th century temple considered to be one of the oldest and sacred temples of Kerala built by Swamy Thirumulapad, the Zamorin King, within his palace complex.
This temple is an outstanding example of the Kerala style of architecture, which features a great woodwork, combined with laterite, to form amazing wall paintings and wooden roof carvings. The main deity here is a Shiva linga,
which is believed to have been installed by Parasurama an avatar of Lord Vishnu.
Thirunnelli Temple knows as Kashi of the South, dedicated to Lord Maha Vishnu, is surrounded by beautiful hills and forests of Wyanad.
The rituals in this temple are performed on the banks of stream Papanashini, which originates from the Brahmagiri hills. The stream is considered to have medicinal powers. You can also see a holy rock in this temple,
where people used to pray for their forefathers. On the western side of the Thirunelli temple, you can sight cave temple Gunnika. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Thus Thirunelli is blessed with the trinities
– Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma.
Sree Parassinikadavu Muthappan Temple is one of the famous Hindu temples situated on the banks of the Valapattanam river about 10 km away from Taliparamba town in Kannur. The main deity of worship in the
temple is Sree Muthappan that is an indication of 2 mythical characters named Thiruvappana and Vellattam. Sree Parassinikadavu Muthappan Temple is the only temple in Kerala where the Folk art form of North Kerala ‘Theyyam’ is
presented daily. This centre of worship and faith has in store many unique practices and rituals, and the temple architecture itself stands testimony to this aspect.
