The sight of wild animals and birds in the surrounding forest of the lake is another attraction of this destination. Pethia Pookodensis is a species of cyprind fish, which is said to be found here only. There are boating facilities and you can visit the nearby freshwater aquarium, children's park and shopping centre exclusively for handiwork and spices.

Banasura Sagar

Amongst countless waterfalls in Wynad are the famous Meenmutty and Soochipara waterfalls. The drive to these falls amidst misty tea estates and the beautiful trek which needs to be taken to reach it are all mesmerizing

Banasura Sagar Dam, a kilometre long mud structure is the largest earthen dam in India and second largest in Asia, impounds the waters of the Karamanathodu, a tributary of the Kabini river. An ideal picnic spot with a breath-taking view. The reservoir formed by the dam is dotted with tiny islands enveloped in thick foliage, and with the Banasura hills in the background offers a magnificient view.

Chembra peak at 2100mts is one of the key attractions of Wynad. The peak is a great spot for trekking which is not too long or difficult. The trek is allowed between and 7am and 2pm and you have to reach back by 5pm. The views on the way to the peak and at the top are enthralling.

The Jain Temple is an ancient temple located in the heart of Sulthan Bathery town .One of the most important amongst a series of ruins spread across Kerala that testify to a period of a strong Jain presence in this region and also one of the best heritage places to visit in Wayanad.The Jain Temple at Sultan Bathery is believed to have been built in 13th century AD. The temple has an interesting history. It first served as a shrine, and then became an important centre of commercial activity. Later in 18th century, it became a dumping ground of ammunitions by Tipu Sultan.

Kuruva Island

Kuruvadweep or Kuruva Island comprises of a cluster of islets in the middle of Kabini river and is popular for the boat rides it offers on specially crafted bamboo rafts. Spread over 950 acres, Kuruva Island, is popular for its diverse flora and fauna. These islands contain two small fresh water lakes. They are also a known safe haven for migratory birds hornbills, parrots and many butterfly species.

A trip to Edakkal Caves is like a journey into our forgotten past. Located 10 kms from Sulthan Bathery, they have provided historians with great information regarding the lives and habits of our ancestors. The caves are two natural rock formations believed to have been formed by a large split in a huge rock. The carvings inside are extremely beautiful. A trek up the majestic Ambukuthi Hills is required to reach these caves. The aroma of coffee stays with you the entire way. It is truly a surreal experience as we step into the palms of history.
